Harmony from Melody

Dumbarton's Drums This is the simple version we used in the workshop to explore ways to build harmonies out of the notes in a melody by letting certain notes ring while damping others.

Edinburgh Musical Miscellany The melody and lyrics of Dumbarton's Drums as found in the 1717 Edinburgh Musical Miscellany.

Song of Seikolos The Song of Seikolos from ancient Greece. Create your harmony by leaving melody notes to ring.

Silent Night only melody notes are played. The harmony emerges as certain melody notes are left to ring. This is one of the examples Cynthia played for the workshop at the Somerset Folk Harp Festival and is also the first page of the arrangement in her book Carols of Christmas for Clarsach
